A Very interesting and rare group of II World war medals Recipient unknown. Including Spanish and Portuguese Orders of Merit. The group comprising Italian Star 1939-45 star George VI coronation medal Vitory and Defence medals. Two Spanish Kingdom Orders of Isabella Catholic (possible Civil awards) A Portuguese Order of Military Merit A 1st Class Order of Military Merit Breast star and a rare Medal of Liberty The Azures medal. Presented to British RAF and Navy Personnel. The Azures an important Strategic Position involved in the defeat of German U boats. This interesting group with blazer ribbons and lapel buttons.

An Important II world war medal. The George Medal. First issued in 1940 for outstanding civilian bravery. Awarded to Bertie Vincent Poole Romford. ‘ Given for outstanding Bravery, II world war. The Heroism of Bert Poole and John Grayson. is a significant Historical Event in Romford and the surrounding area. In December 1940 The German Luftwaffe targeted and bombed Romford which at the time had a concentrated area of industry, Railway Viaducts The Romford Brewery and The Romford Gas Works in Crow Lane. The Gas works took a direct hit causing fire and escaping gas. Bertie Poole engineer and John Grayton climbed onto the structure The massive Gas Cylinder Storage tank.. Plugging holes of leaking gas and extinguishing fires. They risked their own lives to save the population of Romford. Had the gas works exploded this would have caused Catastrophic damage to the surrounding area for miles. Both were Presented The George Medal by King George VI. Also sold with other family medals I World war awarded to GNR. 44522 A H Poole RFA. (3)
